The Just TRI It! A Kids Triathlon first began in 2008, debuting at the St. Augustine YMCA. CMSJ and YMCA partnered to hold the event as part of the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day. Approximately 75 children participated in the event.
The following year, the Just TRI It! A Kids Triathlon moved to downtown St. Augustine at the St. Johns County Parks & Recreation Department’s Willie Galimore Community Center. The event grew this year, expanding to approximately 110 participating children.
In 2010 and 2011, CMSJ was proud to partner once again with the YMCA and St. Johns County Parks & Recreation Department, hosting the event at the Solomon Calhoun Center in West St. Augustine. It is our intention that the race be held at this location going forward as it has ample room for our bike and run courses as well as a junior Olympic-sized lap pool. The pool is managed by the YMCA and the center itself is owned and managed by Parks & Recreation, making this a win-win-win situation for all parties involved. In 2010, we were thrilled to have approximately 175 children participate in the race, raising more than $15,000 for CMSJ. The 2011 event was the most successful yet, raising more than $17,000 and engaging more than 240 children in the race.
